Welcome to Slimming World. My name is Naomi Ferris and I am the Warrenpoint Consultant. My group runs on a Wednesday at 7pm. Slimming World groups are open 52 weeks a year and we make sure that our groups always are open even if we have to change the day.
The Slimming World plan is very different to other 'diet' plans. We encourage our members to eat plenty of fruit and veg, in fact all food groups so to have variety in their meals and to round out their diet to make it healthy.
The Slimming World plan is made up of three steps:
- Free foods: Eat as much of these foods as you like from the choices for each day. If you want a green day then eat freely of the free green choices and the same goes for the original day.
- Healthy extras: Have up to two A choices, this is to ensure you get the required daily amount of calcium. You may also have 2 B choices, this ensures you get the required amount of fibre and minerals each day.
- Choose to syn a little: Have between 5 and 15 syns a day. A glass of wine is about 6 syns and a 1/4 pint of granule gravy is 2 1/2 syns. Its your choice whether to have syns or not.
Think choicepower rather than willpower. When you make an informed choice to eat something whether it be a fattening food or not, you know that the responsibility lies with you if you gain or maintain. We always say to people to keep a food diary so they know exactly what they have eaten and it means then members can keep an eye on how many healthy extras or syns they are having. No food is banned, if you want crisps or a glass of wine, you go right ahead but just make sure it fits in with your food optimising.
No-one wants to sit there and be bored just listening to other people's weight changes.

honesty about why you maintained or gained
and even points for helping other members
. My members love the team fun tech in our group. They vie for points and are very quick to remind me if I forget!!
